Material and Performance Questions
Carbon fiber describes the reinforcement, while CFRP describes the composite of fiber and polymer matrix. Finished performance depends on the complete laminate, so generic fiber data should not be assigned directly to a tube, sheet or machined component.
Material selection should consider direction of load, stiffness, impact, temperature, moisture, chemicals, electrical conductivity and fire requirements. Evidence should match the actual product form and manufacturing process.
Design and Product Selection Questions
Choose product form from geometry and load path: sheet for flat panels and machined profiles, tube for efficient beams or torsional members, rod for axial members, and molded construction for integrated three-dimensional geometry.
Define functional datums, interfaces, edge distances, joining and acceptable deflection early. A manufacturer can review manufacturability, but application-level safety and design approval remain with the responsible engineering organization.
Machining and Manufacturing Questions
CFRP can be CNC-routed, drilled and finished, but abrasive fibers, fine dust, delamination and heat require dedicated process control. Tools, support, extraction and inspection must be selected for the laminate and feature.
Custom production may include layup, pultrusion, roll wrapping, molding, curing, trimming, bonding and assembly. The appropriate route depends on geometry, fiber orientation, surface, consistency, tooling and quantity.
Files, Quotation and Quality Questions
A useful inquiry includes CAD or a dimensioned drawing, revision, units, material or application needs, quantity, tolerances, cosmetic surfaces and operating environment. Identify uncertain items instead of filling them with arbitrary values.
Quality planning should define what is inspected, by which method and against which approved document. Certifications, traceability, reports or special tests must be agreed for the specific order rather than assumed from general website content.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does carbon fiber rust?
Carbon fibers do not rust like steel, but the resin, coatings, bonded joints and connected metals still require environmental review. Carbon can also contribute to galvanic corrosion of certain metals when conditions permit.
Can CFRP be repaired?
Some damage can be repaired using an engineered scarf, patch or component replacement strategy. Feasibility depends on damage extent, laminate access, structural criticality and an approved inspection and repair procedure.
What information is needed for a quotation?
Provide geometry, revision, quantity, material or functional requirements, critical tolerances, finish, inserts and delivery expectations. The supplier can then identify missing decisions during review.
Are exact properties available from the website?
